Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the vibe of the server? Setting? What can I expect coming into this?
This can be found here: How to Play BDcraft - Can I have x magic on start?
No, you must learn/further study of it's existence in RP, and then begin the obscure journey after that point. - How do I learn magic?
One must either RP with someone who is a practitioner of the magic (knowing OF said magic's details is not sufficient) or learn through events. As the entire world of Volantis just recently lost most of it's magicks, this will be a daunting task. Magic will be near-absent for a while, with a major plot point being reclamation of (or rejection of) the magicks of yore. - Where are all the rare materials at?
Unlike some common materials like coal and copper, rare materials come in multiple tiers in our server.
The details of this endeavor can be found here: Mineralogy and you: How to Get Your Precious Loot - Where the !!!! are the dragons????
All elements of BDcraft are plot elements, not lootbags. Dragons, large fauna, big events and other exceptional occurrences are not created upon player request but rather plot relevance. There is no guarantee a "valuable" creature such as a dragon will appear in the current lands that the map is set in; they may not appear for an entire year, or they may blot out the sun in number to burn down the land for months on end, all depending on the plot at hand. - How do I make a settlement?
One cannot simply "make" a settlement. If a sufficient amount of people are desiring to go out and make their own location for themselves, they may start off as a basic hamlet/village of small size, and slowly expand. In the rare case that a great number of players all wish to make a settlement, special circumstances may arise for the nation they are a part of will allow the construction of a large city without need of slowly growing the settlement. Stay tuned for more information as the server release, as a guide to settlement establishment will be released. - How do I make my own nation?
No nations will be made for the foreseeable future, rather, all player-made settlements will be either independent, or under nations currently existing in lore. Making a build with 10 houses and calling it a nation is not appropriate for the setting. - How do I build my own house?
Since there is not any freely building, one must gain access from the owner of land. For example, if you wanted to build a house in a mountain, and the mountains are owned by a family of dwarves who are vassals of the Huzvok Embassy, you would need to appeal for the opportunity to develop the land. This is done through either players who own the land, or through forum posts to far-off polities. If the land is not owned by any polity, you may simply ask staff to add you to the land and build to your hearts content, and perhaps even assert your claim over the land itself in other means than politically. In either case, once you are added to the land, you may build as you see fit, so long as it looks acceptable. - How do I play?
This can be found here: How to Play BDcraft
If meant literally how to log in, then one must; Apply for the Whitelist, and then connect to the IP at [IP]. If one joins without having an accepted Whitelist application, they will be unable to interact with the world, only being a spectator. - What's the IP?
play.bdcraftforums.com - What version is the server?
1.20.X - Where is the server based?
The physical server is based in NA, as well as the predominant amount of player activity. A handful of players will be EU based as well. - How does death work?
Death is for all intents and purposes permanent, but some instances of death are less permanent than others. If one dies to bandits or a war or other small occurrences where the death is inconsequential, one may simply leave the scene and return many hours later as if they had never died, though a few years of their total lifespan shall be shed from the harrowing event. This will simply be a feature of playing the game, with no deep or esoteric explanations given (for now) as to why, and both parties are free to claim the recently deceased is truly dead, or a zombie, or what-have-you. In the case of a more consequential death, such as if one is a leader of a settlement, organization, religious figure, important mage or otherwise substantial figure, AND the death is deemed to be impactful (Such as an event explicitly defined as being PK-Claused, Public Executions, and other very noticeable deaths,) one may NOT return, and are deceased, their souls leaving their bodies, with a PK enforced. However, this is able to be remedied through means of great secrecy, of which only secretive magicks and otherworldly interference could reverse. The most common of these reversals is Reversal of Fate (RoF) such that the spirit will roam the lands as a ghost, and after resolving their death (subject to a Staff Event and approval) in spectral form, they may form their body anew, with a new lease on life. However, this scars the soul, shedding a great portion of one's remaining life from their due lifespan from the strenuous event. Most importantly about this Reversal of Fate however is thus: the greater the amount of people who witness the death, the greater the resistance to the spirit reentering the body. It could be such that too many people witnessed a death, such as that of a King, for the spirit to be able to return. - How does aging work?
Aging of characters is tied to how the time system works in Animus Liber, with one IRL week equaling one IRP year.
More can be found about this topic here: The Imperial Calendar - What age does my character have to be? What is the minimum?
Character aging as well as lifespans can be found here: Races of the Realm
The minimum age one may create a character to be is 15: prior to 15, one may not actively roleplay the baby/child on the server. We do not exactly want to have to deal with 15 year old players seeing 4 year old babies being sacrificed to dark gods upon bleeding altars. - What is the age requirement for the server?
The server has an age requirement of 15 years old. This is not to be strictly enforced, but there will be many mature themes present on the server such as death, extreme emotions, romance, war, strife, profanity, violence and alcohol. The age requirement is treated like M for Mature; if the law claims you have to be 18+ to participate in BDcraft, then that's the official age, but Minecraft is originally a children's game, so 15 is a good compromise. - How does item crafting work?
The Item Guides can be found here: Item Editing/Crafting Guides - How does combat work?
One cannot simply run up to a player and begin clicking them, such will result in a ban. The default of the server is Roleplay, rather than Mechanical.
Further details for PVP can be found here: PVP Guide - Metagaming? Powergaming?
Don't do it. In case you do not know, may you now be educated, lest you commit the cardinal sins.
Metagaming: Conducting activities your character would not know, often by means of what the player knows out-of-character. Examples include: reading non-public information on the forums and having your character suddenly knowledgeable of such, meta-rallying (gathering people for combat through unsupported discord means), and more that you can likely imagine.
Powergaming: Conducting activities unfeasible for your character to do, or performing inhuman/inhumanoid actions, most often found in combat encounters. Examples include forcing actions/outcomes upon other characters "I punch your character/I swing my sword and cut off your hand" vs "I punch at your character/I swing my sword aiming for your character's hand", constantly avoiding attacks "My elf is nimble so he cannot be hit", unnatural feats of strength "My human dual-wields longswords" and other unbelievable actions.
Do not be the reason why more examples are needed to be listed here. - ERP? Groomers? MCRP Abounds with them! What shall we do?
If you are found to be RomanceRP'ing with a minor, and you yourself are above the age of 18 (regardless of any international age objections such as "it's legal in my country!") you will be perma banned, even if "i didn't know!" I would hog-tie you personally if I could, you sick pervert. It is the responsibility of the RP'ers to know whether or not the person they are RP'ing with is of age. If the other party declines to divulge said information for privacy reasons, simply disengage from RomanceRP. It's not that hard to keep it in your pants.
False information (such as the minor lying about their age and only revealing it later, aka Jailbaiting) will result in a permaban for the perpetrator of the falsities, regardless of any circumstances (such as 'being uncomfortable' or 'I forgot').
Hearsay will not suffice for evidence.
If you ARE of age, and both parties are consenting, you STILL cannot ERP on the server. Get freaky elsewhere, nerds.
ALL ERP on the server will result in a ban, and if with a minor, a permaban, and likely contacting of the proper authorities for proper charges. - What counts as ERP?
Anything Erotic. Hence the name. Heavy romance is fine (For those 18+), such as lewd jokes, dirty innuendos, heavy flirting or passionate making out, but where genitalia are involved, one is dealing with ERP. Before reaching said point in the RP, one can FTB, or Fade to Black, and insinuate the following events without the need to RP them. - Small note about Explicit Content: Other uncomfortable and highly mature RP scenarios such as torture or realistic death or medical or birthing or any other high-pain actives do not need to be RP'd, and are suitable for FTB application. If anyone involved is uncomfortable with the above scenarios, they may request the RP'ers to FTB, and all are obligated by their request, OR more preferably, the uncomfortable party, if able, should leave so that the others may RP as they desire. For example, if one is being executed on the gallows for being caught stealing a sweetroll, the one to be executed may request the person doing the chopping emote to be PG or FTB, and those participating are required to oblige, or ask (and expect) the one being executed to log off and the others participating continue as normal.
- Can I swear? What if it's in character? Can I call people slurs? What if THAT'S in character?
With an age requirement of 15+, swearing is allowed in full extent on BDcraft, but do not drown the chat in f-bombs or be otherwise extremely obnoxious with it. In RP, one may swear as much as they desire. One may also be as racist as they desire in RP; medieval times abounded with vile practices and witch hunts over those who were properly 'othered.' As for in OOC, racism will not be tolerated. Banter will be turned a blind eye too, but if there's any hint that the jokes are being serious, or are otherwise just uncomfortable and cringey, staff may decide to tell you to stop.
Appropriate Profanity: "Damn dog, that shit sucks."
Not Appropriate Profanity: "Holy fuck what the goddam fuckiety fuck is the hell going on here?"
Appropriate Jokes: "I hate all elves! Death to tallies!"
Not Appropriate Jokes: "Anyone who plays an elf is a Jew IRL, and I actively avoid RP'ing with them." - Do you have furries?
We have the Conclave, which are similar to Rhinos. Enjoy. - Why is x race/culture/nation/magic/idea/animal/plant not in the lore?
BDcraft was written not to please everyone (such is impossible) and was also written by one writer, of which wrote more words than the entirety of the Game of Thrones; this is to say, even with such volume, not everyone will be pleased that their specific niche is absent. BDcraft is not for everyone: if the lore you desire is not in this setting, there are a great deal of other settings in the world such as DND settings, books, and video games that may be better suited for your attention. For those looking for a focused and detailed setting rather than a broad and shallow one, then BDcraft may be for them. - Can I add x race/culture/nation/magic/idea/animal/plant to the lore?
Most likely not. BDcraft was written as a full setting, rather than a project. Uniquely, upon launch, it will turn into a live project, and suggestions for new lore are welcome, rather than retroactive lore.
For more information on adding content to BDcraft, see: Adding Content to BDcraft - Why is player lore not allowed on this server? Every other MCRP server allows it!
Every other MCRP server, in my lengthy experience (ranging from player writer, Lore Manager, and then Lore Administrator), is plagued by corruption, nepotism and factionism stemming from the attempt of many writers with differing desires all attempting to create things the other writers will enjoy. With me as the only arbiter of lore, there are no qualms, issues of direction, vision, purpose, or factions within a lore team to attempt to pass lore for my own little character even if it's not logical. This also prevents a player from writing lore for 6+ months only to be given different verdicts from a varying team and strung along, as BDcraft is not crafted to meet the niches of every single player that desires to play on the server. While this idea is good on paper, in practice it requires the sole writer to have an extremely diverse mindset in all of the aspects of a fantasy setting, as the tendency for one writer is to be a specialist in one area, otherwise their setting may, for example, be heavily biased towards elves and feature them solely in their worldbuilding, despite advertising an experience for all. Fortunately for the players of BDcraft, I am a nerd, and have extensively studied more of each area of the setting than most would ever specialize in. Enjoy. - Can I use materials and plants that aren't in the lore but are in real life?
For the most part, yes. While not as populous as the creatures written into the lore of BDcraft, or the minerals, most real life attributes exist in this world. No worries will arise out of wanting to RP having a pet Mourning Dove, which is not written into the lore of this setting, but problems appear when anything that would give one a gross advantage (such as attempting to make Baghdad batteries, poison dart frog toxins, titanium weapons, ect) are attempted to be used. Most things will be approved on a case-by-case basis. - Can I bring over my character from xyz?
Partially. You are free to use their name of course, and recreate them in the races and peoples of Volantis, but "Hailing from a foreign land as a Wood Elf" is not going to fly. - Can there be halfbreeds? Half elves? Hybrids?
No. Halfbreeds dilute the experience of uniqueness for all races involved. A half breed between humans and dwarves would inherently bear half of the traits of a human and half of the traits of a dwarf, leeching from the identity of both. Unlike those who are of mixed races in real life and have complex and integrated cultures, fantasy has a tendency to simply mash these traits together for halfbreeds and call it a day, and this is a front in which has not been cared to be remedied in BDcraft.
