Interactions with the Outside World

There is more to Volantis than just the map the players are constrained in! The playable area is only but a snippet of the entire continent. Though players cannot explore beyond the borders of the map at any given time, you can interact with what is beyond the borders in certain ways.
Here are some of the things players can do with the outside world.
Letters
Players can send messages to any of the polities. Once a month, the Culia Courier will arrive, dispensing responses. If the messages were sent to family members in the character’s backstory, or other “inconsequential” characters, the players are free to create the response as they want. However, in the case that letters are sent to important, “consequential” figures such as guild members, dignitaries, or rulers, staff will have to respond on their behalf. That is, if the character receives a response in the first place. A character shouldn’t hold their breath for a response when sending a love letter to the Ibex King of Culiacàn. Leaders of groups often will need to conduct correspondence with outside officials for the happenings of their group, such as gathering land or orders. Other times, you may receive a letter from your Sponsors, for better or for worse.
Travel
As much as we would love to have the entire continent of Volantis playable, the map would be far too big to facilitate. As such, players are stuck in the current map boundaries, unless under very specific circumstances. These are:
- You wish to shelf your character for a couple months
- A Staff Event brings you there
In either case, the roleplay will be done through the forums or on discord, as the entire continent of Volantis is far too big to have a build ready for every square you may wish to travel to. You are free to travel nearly all of Volantis.
