1. Cheating: No hacking or unfair advantages of any kind. This includes ANY unfair external advantages are not allowed such as X-Ray, Freecam, Baritone bots, any hacks, exploits with the server itself, and other.
2. Alting: Creating an alt account without having it registered or to avoid a ban, will result in a further ban.
3. Harassment Posting: Do not create posts on the forums simply to stir up shit. Legitimate claims are more than welcome on the forums, but attempts at slander, rather than rectification of a situation, will result in a ban from the forums.
4. Age Requirement: You must be 15+ and older to play BDcraft.
5. Respect: Respect is mandatory. You must either treat others with respect, or do not interact with those you cannot respect. Our community is our most valuable aspect of the server, and it is built upon respect. Being respectful will fulfill most other rules.
Things considered disrespectful include engaging or participating in: Impersonating others for reasons other than a tasteful joke, being a shithead, severe belittling, harassment OOCly (IRP is fine), bullying on a case-by-case basis, threatening others, ignoring staff or others about OOC matters in which you are expected to respond. This goes for staff as well. If staff ignore a filed issue in the communicated amount of time, they are shirking their duties. However, if you’re whining in their DM’s they don’t have to answer. They’re not slaves.
Things not considered disrespectful nor respectful: Neglecting others (ignoring DM's from your group about IRP matters), or excluding others from your "in" group. Trolling each other in OOC is fine, so long as both parties are actually participating, rather than just one party belittling and degrading the other party and claiming it as "good fun."
6. Cursing: Swearing is allowed in every aspect of the server, within reason. Do not drown the chat in f-bombs or be otherwise extremely obnoxious with it. In RP, one may swear as much as they desire.
Appropriate Profanity: "Damn man, that shit sucks."
Inappropriate Profanity: "Holy fuck what the goddam fuckiety fuck is the hell going on here?"
7. Racism and other Discrimination: One may also be as racist and discriminatory as they desire in RP; medieval times abounded with vile practices and witch hunts over those who were properly 'othered.' As for in OOC, racism will not be tolerated. Banter will be turned a blind eye too, but if there's any hint that the jokes are being serious, or are otherwise just uncomfortable and cringy, staff may decide to tell you to stop.
Appropriate Jokes: "I hate all elves! Death to tallies!"
Inappropriate Jokes: "Anyone who plays an elf is a Jew IRL, and I actively avoid RP'ing with them."
8. Proper Channels: Use the proper channels for information. Issues should be filed in Reports on the forums or in the Discord channel. DM’ing staff about your grievances likely will be ignored. If the matter has not been resolved in the communicated time frame, then you are allowed to use other channels.
9. Grooming: This shouldn't have to be said, but grooming is not allowed. It is a permaban offense.
10. Right to Privacy: If you have an issue about another person, resolve it through private channels if you can. If not, you may do so publicly. If you first resort to airing grievances on the forums before trying to directly resolve the issue, it is considered inflammatory, disrespectful, and not allowed.
11. Lying: You can lie OOC’ly all you want only to maintain RP secrets. We’re not your momma. We won’t put soap in your mouth if you tell fibs.
12. Chat: Follow the other established rules in the chat. Limited swearing is permitted, as the minimum age for players is 15. Just don't be obnoxious and you'll be good. Don't spam.
1. Do not Metagame:
Metagaming: Conducting activities your character would not know, often by means of what the player knows out-of-character. Examples include: reading non-public information on the forums and having your character suddenly knowledgeable of such, meta-rallying (gathering people for combat through unsupported discord means), and more that you can likely imagine.
Claiming your character knows how to use a magick that they're not approved for, or crafting/gathering a material they have not the knowledge for, is metagaming.
2. Do Not Powergame:
Powergaming: Conducting activities unfeasible for your character to do, or performing inhuman/inhumanoid actions, most often found in combat encounters. Examples include forcing actions/outcomes upon other characters "I punch your character/I swing my sword and cut off your hand" vs "I punch at your character/I swing my sword aiming for your character's hand", constantly avoiding attacks "My elf is nimble so he cannot be hit", unnatural feats of strength "My human dual-wields longswords" and other unbelievable actions.
3. OOC and RP: Keep Roleplay and OOC separate. Do not let them cross over. Do not claim Discord Communications to have occurred IRP, unless the communications were faux IRP, in which ideally they would be recorded on the forums RP channels. You can plot and scheme OOCly, but if it never has an IRP counterpart, you will be metagaming.
4. Plagiarism: Plagiarism will not be tolerated. As such, Plagiarism as defined by BDcraft is as follows:
Plagiarism: Any text or passage or idea, used in part or in whole, and reconstituted as one's own creation entirely. This is different from using inspiration, as nothing is unique in this day and age.
Not Plagiarism: Using a similar spell under the DND SRD which is free for all to use, and tweaking it slightly for personal use.
Plagiarism: Using an exact spell from DND in a write up for a new magic.
5. Seriousness in RP: Do not troll or meme RP. If you cannot help yourself, keep it to a minimum.
6. Item Representation: All items should have a mechanical representation. All items which are significant NEED a mechanical representation. These include: Weapons, Armor, magic items, rare objects, expensive items, anything from events, ect.
7. RP Continuity: All actions conducted on the server are believed to be in roleplay by default. Running to a city and then claiming "I'm not RP'ing I'm just checking things out OOCly" is not a usable alibi.
8. ERP: ERP is not allowed.
ERP (Erotic/Explicit Roleplay): Defined as anything erotic. Hence the name. Heavy romance is fine (For those 18+), such as lewd jokes, dirty innuendos, heavy flirting or passionate making out, but where genitalia are involved, one is dealing with ERP. Before reaching said point in the RP, one can FTB, or Fade to Black, and insinuate the following events without the need to RP them.
False information (such as the minor lying about their age and only revealing it later, aka Jailbaiting) will result in a permaban for the perpetrator of the falsities, regardless of any circumstances (such as 'being uncomfortable' or 'I forgot').
Hearsay will not suffice for evidence.
ALL ERP on the server will result in a ban, and if with a minor, a permaban, and likely contacting of the proper authorities for proper charges.
Other uncomfortable and highly mature RP scenarios such as torture or realistic death or medical or birthing or any other high-pain actives do not need to be RP'd, and are suitable for FTB application. If anyone involved is uncomfortable with the above scenarios, they may request the RP'ers to FTB, and all are obligated by their request, OR more preferably, the uncomfortable party, if able, should leave so that the others may RP as they desire. For example, if one is being executed on the gallows for being caught stealing a sweetroll, the one to be executed may request the person doing the chopping emote to be PG or FTB, and those participating are required to oblige, or ask the one being executed to log off and the others participating continue as normal.
9. Romance RP: Romance RP is only allowable for those who are verifiably 18+.
Romance RP includes: Romantic Relationships (Dating, Marriage), flirting.
10. Fake Lore: Do not use significant lore that is not officially published on the forums, or learned in game.
Significant lore typically means world-significant, such as claiming your character knows a magic type not published: "My elf knows water magic!" or "My dwarf comes from a small kingdom in the mountains that no one knew about for centuries." You could say that a made-up small character was your friend in an existing nation, in a fictional town, for example.
12. Fake Characters: You cannot generate fake background characters/NPC's from thin air. For example, if you need enough members for your evil and spooky cult settlement, or maybe you need 10 people to perform a grand ritual, you cannot make them; you need actual players. You MAY create fake background characters that have minimal involvement in the setting, such as ancestors, couriers, friends and family, enemies, and so on.
12. IRL Characters: Do not create characters (or reference people/characters) from real life. All characters should meet the racial and age requirements of their particular origins, found here: Races of the Realm
13. Fake Skills: You cannot give your character fake skills they did not earn. For example, you cannot make a character that is a master swordsman, shipwright, carpenter, trade, blacksmithing, or anything at all. Creating a character that is a master at anything at all is demeaning to other players who spend time on their character learning and practicing with others, or through solo roleplay. At best, your character can be slightly above average in a few things, though it is highly suggested they be beginners in almost everything to give your character room to grow. Having a character with any skill mastered without the roleplay to back it up is considered powergaming.
14. Racism and Discrimination: Racism and Discrimination of any sort is allowed in roleplay.
1. RP-Default: The default type of combat is conducted through roleplay.
2. PVP: If both parties decide upon it, OR if there are disputes in the roleplay and nothing can be decided, the parties may engage in mechanical PVP. They may make the rules of engagement as they see fit, so long as both sides agree. The default engagement rules are as follows.
Set a countdown of 10 seconds, during which neither party is allowed to move. After the countdown they may PVP as normal. If a player is downed, they will lay prone on the ground, in which they may either be executed (must be agreed upon prior to combat start) or aided up, in which RP can continue.
If someone does move before the coundown is up, they CANNOT fight back, but are allowed to flee, and the attackers may chase them. If an attacker moves first, the defender is allowed to remove the attacker from the combat; if there is only one attacker, the defender gets away without a chance to catch them.
No one may join the engagement the moment RP is paused to discuss the matter. Trying to join PVP in which you were not in the original roleplay fight is also by default not allowed.
Reminder; sending a message on Discord for your buddies to hop on, while your character is actively fighting, is metagaming, and bannable. Other characters "randomly" walking into the scene is also heavily suspicious, and subject to investigation from moderation on whether or not they were secretly informed.
If using the Calls Action System, if an emote is not sent within 2-3 seconds of the countdown being called, players need to re-roll. Forcing a re-roll more than once is deceptive and not allowed; players are encouraged to inform staff of this behavior.
3. Escalation: Escalation should be appropriate. You should not kill someone because they stole your sweetroll. Revenge and other retaliation should make sense. This is more of a guideline than a rule; you CAN kill someone because they looked at you funny, but it is in very bad taste and likely will not win you any awards for "outstanding community member".
4. Murder-hoboing: Murder-hoboes are not allowed. This is a character that kills people randomly, and does hardly any roleplay other than murder. This goes in line with the Escalation rule.
5. Shiny Loot Clause: If a player was to be in the process of having an item taken from them (in their inventory only, no chests) they have the option of reversing that theft, if the theft was small-scale. This means a small (~5) number of bandits/witnesses. If invoking this clause, all involved will come up with an excuse for why they didn’t get the stolen item (missed reaching for it, or got distracted, ect) and will not try to get the item again that day. This clause grants immunity to theft for 1 IRL day. This means you cannot have 2 groups stationed ready to steal items to circumvent this clause. This is a 1-time per an entire character’s life clause. After used up, the loot may be sought after with the typical looting rules. You must inform the staff of this clause being used; failure to do so will retroactively give the thieving party the item.
6. Free Loot Clause: When pilfering someone, even if they are dead, you can only take 1 Admin/Staff Grade item, and 3 unique Special Grade items. Everything else can be taken freely. If the death ends up leading to a Reversal of Fate, and they fail their journey, leading to a permanent PK, the player is responsible for giving the pilferers all of the loot at the time of death of the original pilferers. You may take all of the money on the person.
7. Combat Logging: Logging out of the server during combat (within 5 minutes of combat taking place) in order to avoid combat is not allowed. If you do, it will be considered a loss of the fight, UNLESS the other party decides to do a rematch or continue where you left off, such as in the case that your internet disconnected for a moment, and you relog back in without any penalties. The other player is free to loot you as per our usual looting rules.
Please don't make me write this. This will be blank until needed, as for now the punishment pipeline will be Chewing you out>banned
1. Crime Limits: Crime is to be limited in the beginning of BDcraft.
This is due to the limited amount of players invested in the server at start. It serves no one any good should the entire server's characters begin antagonistic behaviors towards each other and not have anyone else to interact with. Should the numbers grow, this rule will be lifted.
2. Theft: Theft is better if the target is online. Unless the player is inactive for a long time, you must do it when the target is online.
If you have permission to open the check (you can't open the chest otherwise), you can steal anything and everything from it. If you wish to steal from another player's locked storage, such will be overseen by moderation with proper roleplay and mechanics, upon approval of the thievery.
Evicting a storage as an owner of the region is considered breaking this rule, UNLESS the player has been informed of the eviction in-game and on Discord the allotted amount of time as determined by the region, in writing, beforehand. Upon eviction, all items go into the player's storage.
Theft is subject to loot rules found in [Combat Rules].
3. Vandalism: Like theft, vandalism is better if the target's owner is online. Unless the player is inactive for a long time, you must do it when the target is online.
Vandalism is to be overseen by moderation. If the other player is online, you are limited by only the Crime Limit rule (IE how often you can do it), and your roleplay ability to vandalize, such as tools like matches, bricks, or paint. You may vandalize until your character is caught, or would be come tired. If the player is offline and vandalism is still permitted to take place, you may perform only 3 vandalism actions before having to call it off.
4. Alerts: If vandalism takes place or is intended to take place on a player's area, it is required to inform them anonymously. If the player is subject to a thievery attempt, they are only required to be informed if they have NPC guards.
If NPC guards, or lookouts are available, the owner of the property/storage will be given a description of what the guard may have seen.
3. Other Crimes: Other crimes as determined by in-game groups are up to those groups to govern, not staff. Staff only is concerned about thievery and vandalism. You can murder and commit tax fraud all you want (with respect to the Crime Limit Rule).
1. Setting Appropriate: All builds must be setting-appropriate. This means modern technology and buildings do not fit. Dirt huts, giant underground farms, mob grinders, cobblestone nerd poles, floating structures ect. are not allowed. They will be removed or, if the build is more than just a small cobble house or nerd pole or floating tree, a warning to change the build given to the player(s) responsible.
2. Quality: All builds must meet a certain quality standard set by existing builds. Staff will not be evil arbitrators of this however, and will work with players in some fashion in helping them get their builds in order, if they are able.
3. Griefing: Griefing is not allowed. Even if you have permissions in the region, it is still not allowed. Griefing includes; leaving water/lava everywhere, killing mobs without permission, destroying crops without permission, breaking blocks to gain acess to a location you cannot reach on your own, or using the world to gather resources. The world is not a resource pit for you to plunder.
If you wish to deface a build, kill other's mobs or harvest their crops without permission, see our rules on Crime.
4. Farms: In line with the Setting Appropriate rule, farms of all kinds (block, mob, and crops) are limited. Passive mob farms (cows chicken sheep ect) are fine, so long as excessive (>25 each) are not had, as this causes lag. The build should also be spacious enough to accommodate the mobs, rather than a typical compact Minecraft farm. If the mob can move around a couple of blocks, the space is good. Crop farms and block farms cannot be automatic (IE using water to collect crops) unless staff approves the roleplay implementation of the technology. Other farms like villager trading hubs and iron golem farms are not allowed.
5. Redstone: Redstone contraptions beyond a simple piston door will be subject to moderation if found. IE, do not build a working cell phone in BDcraft.
6. Mining: Do not strip mine if you have any RP consequences intended for it, such as searching for things underground for whatever reason. Building underground is fine.
Death Rules
1. Death Permanence: Death is for all intents and purposes permanent, but some instances of death are less permanent than others. This is dependent on the Death Visibility.
2. Good Death Clause: If a character dies a “lame” death, they can choose to revive themselves without the risk of the typical soul finding required of all deaths that are above the 5 player Death Visibility threshold. This comes with its own set off penalties and issues, but this allows players to not loose their character that has $600 dollars worth of custom art and precious heirlooms from years ago to a demonic frog that drowns them. This is a 1-time clause. After using it, there is no more immunity to lame-ness. May you avoid the frog. You must inform staff that you have used the clause, or it will be considered not used, and the death in full effect.
3. Clean Death Clause: A player can refuse the results of a death if they know the circumstances were not clean OOCly. This includes: Metagaming surrounding their location or other information prior to their death, powergaming the fight leading up to their eventual death, OOC motivations (such as revenge for something that happened IRL) and other non-RP issues. If any disagreements arise from this, moderation can get involved.
4. Death Visibility: The more visible a death, the less likely you will be allowed to continue playing that character.
If one dies to bandits or a war or other small occurrences where the death is inconsequential, one may simply leave the scene and return many hours later as if they had never died, though 10 years of their total lifespan shall be shed from the harrowing event. This will simply be a feature of playing the game, with no deep or esoteric explanations given (for now) as to why, and both parties are free to claim the recently deceased is truly dead, or a zombie, or what-have-you. You may keep whatever part of the other person's body you desire, whether it be hands, a head, or even the entire body, should you RP it properly. Showing anyone at all the dead body of a character who is still played will cause characters to deny the discrepancy, the thought too unbelievable to be true.
In the case of a more consequential death, such as if one is a leader of a settlement, organization, important religious figure, ALL magisters or otherwise substantial figure, AND the death is deemed to be impactful (Such as an event explicitly defined as being PK-Claused, Public Executions, and other very noticeable deaths in front of 5+ players,) one may NOT return, and are deceased, their souls leaving their bodies, with a PK enforced. If you want to continue playing your character, see the rules on Reversal of Fate. (Wars and other large-scale battles do not count for the visibility numbers.) If the player is not deemed "important" as per the above examples, then 8+ players will have to be present to enforce a PK.
4. Reversal of Fate: Not all PK's are permanent.
In the case that your character has suffered a PK, it may be able to be remedied through means of great secrecy, of which only secretive magicks and otherworldly interference could reverse. The most common of these reversals is Reversal of Fate (RoF). In this, your character's spirit begins to roam the lands as a ghost, seeking to resolve the events of their death. You must apply to undertake the RoF and to roam as a spirit. Staff must also approve the conclusion of your resolution of your character's death. In the case of a success, your character may form their body anew, with a new lease on life. However, this scars the soul, shedding a great portion (25% total) of one's remaining life from their due lifespan from the strenuous event.
Most importantly about this Reversal of Fate however is thus: the greater the amount of people who witness the death, the greater the resistance to the spirit reentering the body. It could be such that too many people witnessed a death, such as that of a King, for the spirit to be able to return. This is subject to staff determination.
There is no limit to the number of times one may return, only a limit to one's lifespan.
5. Death Penalties: You must increase the age of your character by 10 years upon a non-mechanical death (falling from a high place, starving, ect.) You may not roleplay knowing the events leading up directly to your death. You may know you were on the road towards a city, but not that you were stopped, or that you were stopped by bandits, or that your were stopped by bandits from xyz city, or any information about them at all. If there were any witnesses, they are allowed to inform you. You must have your character be very skeptical and unbelieving of any information revolving their death, as they will have 0 recollection of it.
6. Death Summary:
"Insignificant" player death with less than 8 players observing it: 10 Years lifespan lost, instant respawn.
"Significant" player death with less than 5 players observing it: 10 Years lifespan lost, instant respawn.
"Insignificant" player death with 8 or more players observing it: PK, with option of RoF.
"Significant" player death with 5 or more players observing it: PK, with option of RoF.
Staff event death: PK, often without the option of RoF.
The Good Death Clause circumvents all of this except for staff events, and only subtracts 10 years from your character's lifespan.
You are NOT allowed to metagame the threshold of Death Visibility. If, for example, your character killed another character and they simply came back 10 years older, you ARE allowed to have them think that involving more in the murder would help keep them dead. You are NOT allowed to have your character think that involving 8 people whereas you only had 7 before would certainly keep someone dead for good. Metagaming this information is an instant ban.
